Places Where I Blog
Posted by admin on December 2nd, 2010

What I love about blogging is that I can do it from any location, as long as I have my laptop with me and access to the internet. I’ve discovered that this freedom has significantly affected my writing process and how I blog.
In fact, I’ve found that I cannot accomplish certain tasks without shifting my location. Although this could be seen as a disadvantage of the mobility of blogging, it’s actually forced me to maintain a strict blogging schedule; I plan out my week according to the goals I have, and then based on that list of goals, I decide when and where I will blog.
Here are my top four blogging locations, and why they mean so much to me and my blogging goals.
My Coffee Shop
I often go to the Starbucks near my house when I need to brainstorm possible ideas for my projects. I like the coffee shop because of its atmosphere; it reminds me that my blogs are situated in a greater context, the community of my chosen niche. Because the coffee shop is both informal and busy, it helps me think of the audience to whom I’m writing. The coffee shop reminds me that there are other blogs out there as well.
When I work in the coffee shop, my blogging activity usually consists of reading other blogs, writing comments, responding to comments on my own blogs, and making lists of topics or issues that I discovered during that session about which I could write later. The coffee shop represents my connection to the greater community.
My Office Desk
My office desk is where the bulk of my writing gets done. My office desk is in a pretty small room that I can close off from the rest of the house. It allows me to get in a writing mode and focus on each article. At my office desk is where I write all the blog posts. It’s where I refine the work I’ve done at the coffee shop.
My Kitchen Table
My kitchen table is a pretty massive piece of furniture that I never seem to use properly. Rather than setting places at it, I instead spread out all my sheets of notebook, my laptop and extra monitor, and anything else I need to manage my blogging projects.
I think of my kitchen table as a huge conference table at which I get a lot of my long-term blogging done. Each week, I use it to help me figure out what my next steps are for each of my blogs, and how I can achieve my long-term and short term goals. Because it’s such a big workspace, it helps me think of the big picture.
My Bed
When I blog in my bed, I’m actually experimenting and being creative. Because it’s so comfortable and free, I don’t feel limited by what I should do. In my bed, I can write whatever I want: poetry, short stories, movie reviews. These don’t have to be published on my blogs, but the creative act of writing these texts helps keep my mind free, so that that creativity can be better harnessed to write the more serious posts on my regular blogs.

Anna,
This is a great post, I completely agree about the Coffee shop, I have a very large and comfortable office but I find that I do my best blogging/work in my local coffee shop. “Because the coffee shop is both informal and busy, it helps me think of the audience to whom I’m writing. The coffee shop reminds me that there are other blogs out there as well” I could not have put it better my self!
Very Good!!

Blogging is now defined as freedom — the freedom to work and make money anywhere you want to and the freedom to express yourself to the whole world.
As a blogger myself, I love the idea of being able to work even in a secluded place for as long as there is an internet connection.
