In a recent post I looked at Twitter follower management, listing several tools which help with this vital function. One of these, Tweepular, deserves its own review. Visit the home page and you will be astounded by the range of services that Tweepular promises. Here’s a guide to using this tool.

Getting Started

To get started, login with your Twitter credentials. Depending on the number of followers and the speed of your connection you may have to wait a few minutes to see your home page, but don’t worry, there’s a break dancing bird to entertain you.

The Dashboard

The dashboard features five tabs and opens on the first, ‘mutual follow love’. These are the people you are following who are also following you. At the top of this tab is a handy table showing the number of followers, people you are following, updates and your tweepularity. Beneath that are buttons for bulk following or unfollowing people. In the top right hand corner are sorting options.

Underneath are lists of your followers/followed. Each has a neat little box showing their image, the date of their last update, the date they were added and their follower count. There’s also a check box for any bulk following or unfollowing you might choose to do. Hover over a person’s name and you can see their screen name, location, bio and last tweet. All of this can help you to decide whether to follow or unfollow them.

The Tabs

Other tabs show ‘no follow love’ (people you are following who aren’t following you back), ‘tweeps only following me’ (people you are not following) and ‘build your tweepularity’ (recommendations for 200 people you might like to follow). The site is still in beta, but plans to make a fifth tab available to show recent unfollowers.

Using The Site

I’ve found the site most useful for managing people who have followed me recently. I go to the tab, sort by date added and see who I might like to follow. I’ve also used the ‘last updated’ sort to weed out those who aren’t active. (Tip: clicking the sort button again flips between ascending and descending sort.)

The Verdict

I’ve found this a useful site for managing Twitter followers, and I look forward to seeing the release of more features. I definitely recommend it.
