4 Free Sites For Increasing Your Twitter Followers
Posted by Charles on July 21st, 2010
The user base and popularity of Twitter makes it a great marketing tool, but in order to really benefit you need a large follower count. People are always looking for new methods to increase their follower count. Of course, there are quite a few tools out there that will cost you money and their results are not even guaranteed.
Free is often better and you have nothing to lose but a little bit of your time. So without further ado, here are 4 free sites for helping you increase your Twitter followers.
Tweetmeme Follow Button
Tweetmeme is the creator of the ever so popular retweet button. Well, they also have a follow button that can be used on your website or blog to help you increase your followers. Just as the title says, it’s a button that is displayed on each of your blog posts and says “follow”. When clicked, people can follow you on Twitter. This is probably one of the easiest ways to increase your Twitter following, especially if you have a lot of traffic to your site.

Twiends
Twiends is a site where you earn credits for following other users. Those credits can then be used to list yourself for others to follow. You can set the number of credits you want to offer for each follower. You can also add interests to your profile to make it easier for people to find you.
One very neat feature is that they have a button to let you follow everyone on a single page and it’s all automated. You can set it up to get email notifications when your credits run out also. Under settings you can even see the number of new followers that you have gotten through Twiends.
Run A Twitter Contest
This is a very popular method among bloggers. Running a Twitter contest not only gets you lots of followers but it also helps promote your blog, website, product or service. This is done by giving something away on your site and then providing people “entries” for doing things such as following you on Twitter, subscribing to your blog, or retweeting your contest. This can be done manually or by using an online tool to run the contest for you.
A couple of great tools for running a twitter contest are Twtaway and Tweets Win. These sites will set the contest up for you (after you fill in the required info) and give you a widget to display on your site. Your contest will also be listed on their site.

TweepMe
This is a service that kind of makes me raise an eyebrow, but I’ve researched it on Google and it seems to be pretty useful. It’s a mutual following system and all automatic. When a new member joins TweepMe they automatically follow the other members and the other members follow them back.
The procedure is gradual and can take anywhere from a few weeks to a few months to follow all of the members; this is done in order not to overload Twitter’s API. Although there is a paid membership, you can also join for free if you allow them to auto-tweet messages from your account. The paid membership is only $12.95 which isn’t that bad. I haven’t personally tried it but it claims to have almost 7500 active members.
So now you have 4 sites that you can use to help you increase your Twitter followers. Hopefully you will have much success and achieve your follower goal. Feel free to share any other tools for increasing follower count in the comments.
