We already know that as we get better, the game gets bigger. We are not born to get stuck to one lifetime phase but instead we strive each day to go on living and winning over obstacles along the way. This is also true for power. Great power will always come with great responsibility.

Social Media today has already achieved that great power. It has been a resounding success for different campaigns and influences with a great amount of reach. Social media offers many businesses and organizations a unique platform to promote their cause and to let the world know of their existence. Try checking out my post about How Internet or Any Business Benefits Social Media.

Who would have imagined that it was actually possible to send your message halfway across the globe in a matter of seconds?

Take Twitter for example. We have seen with a bunch of campaigns recently that some companies are choosing to abuse their twitter profile and social media presence with spammy marketing campaigns, selfishly promoting themselves aiming to get to the trend topics, sending unsolicited direct messages and a lot more. Sometimes and worst, social media today can be a cause of a reputation nightmare for you and for your company. This is how powerful social media is.

Has anyone of you ever happened not to read about the Horizon Realty and Amanda news? Yes? Then you’re missing out.

On May 12, a woman by the name of Amanda Bonnent tweeted negative remarks about Chicago property management company Horizon Realty LLC.

Did Horizon Realty ever make a risk contingency plan for future social media attacks that had recently happened to them? Had they ever expected this? Maybe No, Maybe Yes.

This is why online reputation management is important. Do not just take social media for granted because social media now has great power. Such great power can either boost your business or bury your business to death. It’s not enough to enjoy that power. I suggest you check out this post — Avoid that Online Reputation Management Nightmare.

An ounce of prevention is always a pound of cure, right? Somewhere along the way, people lose track of this concept. Now, we just always have to remember that the moment we take advantage of social media power, we accept the fact that we are always responsible for taking care of it. This is for our benefit and for the benefit of the social media community that we are in.

The bottomline: Be Socially Responsible! Be Carefully Responsible!
