Forget Digg and SU: 10 Reasons Why You Should Focus on BloggingZoom

BloggingZoom On Target

After reading this title you might think I’m totally insane. Well, I have reasons to believe that BloggingZoom will become a top priority for bloggers, and I intend to explain why in this article.

If you haven’t registered to BloggingZoom yet, I recommend reading Submit Your Posts To BloggingZoom, an article I published recently, and Jumpstart You Blog With BloggingZoom from Newest On The Net. Once you are done, go to BZ and create your account.

Top Story Experience

I’ve had the privilege of being featured on top of BloggingZoom for almost 48 hours. The featured post was How I Received 850 Visitors Without Using Social Media, it’s been Zoomed 27 times. Being displayed at the very top of BZ sent me so far 135 unique visitors!

Better Visitors?

This very same post was also submitted -not by me- to StumbleUpon but sent only 200 visitors. Ok, you could say SU sent me 65 more readers than BZ… true. But what about the quality of these SU visitors? See it this way. On SU, the system pushes stories to users. Of course, it sends you stories and links based on your interests, but still, users do not pick and choose the sites and content they wish to visit. That is not the case of BZ, you read the submissions that get your attention.

What About Digg?

While being featured on Digg is one of the most exciting experience bloggers can have, for blogs that blog about blogging or how to make money online, your stories get automatically 2 strikes, if not 3, right out of the submission box. Unless you are buddy buddy with a top digger such as Muhammad Saleem, I suggest you consider a plan B.

10 Reasons Why You Should Focus On BloggingZoom

1) Joining BZ right now will make you look like a Power Zoomer (BloggingZoom Influencer) once the site becomes mainstream.

2) Since BZ is not yet too crowded, now is a good time to start being active and make new friends… who knows, they might become Power Zoomer soon.

3) Scratch my back and I’ll scratch yours. By joining now and voting for stories, you are helping fellow bloggers to make their way into the blogosphere. The site is still a small/medium community, and in small communities, people help themselves. Don’t worry, Zoomers will return the favour and you’ll get zoomed too.

4) Your server will not collapse if you hit the front page ;-)

5) Visitors from BloggingZoom are ALL bloggers. Which is not the case for Digg and SU. I know many people who read Digg and others who stumble on a daily basis and they have no clue what WordPress is. So the value of being visited by Bloggers interested in your story is much better than 300 Stumblers. Don’t get me wrong here, I love being visited by Diggers and Stumblers, but when a considerable number of Zoomers are visiting my site, I consider them as high quality visitors because they have more potential of becoming RSS subscribers.

6) Writing content for Digg is easy… and difficult at the same time. Easy because you can follow the 10 Steps to Guarantee You Make the Digg Front Page, but difficult because applying these 10 steps to your blog may be quite a challenge depending on your niche. And it’s risky too… you might offend some of your readers. I recently analyzed the content submitted to BZ and have found extremely useful articles that would have been buried in seconds on Digg.

7) I’m not sure where I read this since my RSS reader has quite a bunch of subscriptions but I recently found a post predicting that in 2008, blogging would become mainstream. If that is the case, then BZ is strategically your best investment, in other words stockbrokers would rate it as Strong Buy.

8 ) Competition is low. Take advantage of that, this gives you better visibility. Competing for the front page of Digg is like auditioning for American Idol, good luck.

9) Long term investment. Digg was founded in 2004, StumbleUpon in 2001. When was BloggingZoom launched? November 1st 2007. So it is clear that right now, BloggingZoom doesn’t have the visibility of neither Digg nor StumbleUpon. But now is the time to jump into the wagon, this way your blog will grow as the BZ community is growing.

10) Many bloggers invest considerable amount of time in social media sites to both promote stories, and promote their own articles. You cannot possibly be a power user on Digg, SU, Sphinn, Reddit, Del.icio.us, Propeller, Facebook and Furl at the the same time. At one point, you need to decide on which social media site you invest quality time. For all the reasons listed above, I believe you should seriously consider joining the BloggingZoom community and become an active user.

Editor’s note: Since the title of this article was an attention grabber, I wish to underscore that I do not deny the importance of using Digg and SU to grow traffic. My intention with this post was to convince you to invest time and effort into BloggingZoom because it is an amazing tool to expand your readership.

I’ve been a member of BloggingZoom for a few weeks and I think it’s great. I think you’re right to say that you get people who are likely to stick around. I reviewed BloggingZoom recently on Pureblogging. A lot of the users have very positive feedback.

I’m with you on that score re BZ. Like you, I joined BZ almost from the word Go. And so far I’ve submitted 35 articles and all have gone “hot.” But the biggest bonus is that traffic started to increase. More visitors, more comments, etc. Vic and Court have done a remarkable job with BZ. Their blogs are the places to visit to learn more about blogging stuff. BTW, you got a great post here and it’s good to know you have the thumb-up for BZ. Since I’m here might as well subscribe to your blog. Have a great day.

I’m a huge BloggingZoom fan who’s been using it since day 1 (literally, November 1). I really can’t even tell you how much BZ can do for you and your blog if you get involved. I went from having maybe 1200 visitors a month (avg) to nearly hitting 30,000 unique visitors in December. I can track those visitors to links and Stumbles and other mentions that I received from being a part of BloggingZoom and being involved with other BloggingZoom users. I know of several others who have had similar results.

I’ve never once had an article on Digg. And I probably never will.

@ Markk: You are right about Vic and Court, they did an amazing job with BZ, I’m hoping they will keep the same culture and mission. Thank you for subscribing to my blog, I will surely do the same.

@ Jason: Thank you for Sharing. Your comment proves the point of this article and your results are fantastic.

    Thanks

First I would like to say thank you for such an in depth look at Blogging Zoom and social sites similar. If you have not thought about it I would suggest you take a look at an Alexa 3 year comparison of BZ and Digg and you will see that our numbers are way better then Digg at the same time line. Court and myself have many things coming that will place the exposure for all you folks we already have lined up possible interviews in mainstream magazines and the likes so you folks will see a huge jump those that use the system the most will benefit the most. We first wanted to make sure we had a stable platform which we think we have done a good job as BZ does not go into errors many times even though we have a serious traffic load. Now we are working on the new branding or face of BZ we think you folks will like it. Right now the crazy thing is we are about 80% organic traffic meaning that you folks are getting huge organic traffic to your post. Of course as I preach so often at BU there are not enough searches for blogging and related for you guys to see a huge push but those blogs that work out of the how to blog arena are getting a huge return in investment.

I look forward to see you become a Blogging Zoom power user and in the new upgrade I think you folks will really enjoy a feature that will make Blogging Zoom way easier to socialize and at the same time help you folks open your reader market.

    To Your Success

    Vic

    If you’re such a fan…why hasn’t this article been submitted? I don’t see a button, am I missing it?

  9. Patrick Says:

@ bill: Thanks for stopping by. For obscure reasons, sometimes the button alters the default font of the page. Most of the time on the first paragraph. But if you look at more recent posts, you’ll see the button. Let’s say I try to add it when I know there is a good potential for BZ. But it was not install when I originally wrote this post. You want it? You got it!

    Thanks again for commenting.
