Niche Readjustment: Blogging Collaboration
Posted by Patrick on February 3rd, 2008
For those who’ve been reading Piggy Bank Pie for a while, you may have noticed a slight adjustment in the top logo. Previously, you could read the phrase: Gross Revenues Sharing Blog. I decided that a reorientation was needed following my series Let’s Collaborate and Let’s Collaborate Part II. The new slogan is now Blogging Collaboration Made Easy.Adjustments
Most projects, between the original idea and the actual conception, go through a series of adjustments. I felt Piggy Bank Pie’s image needed to reflect the content being published here. The slogan, Gross Revenues Sharing Blog, creates expectations related to making money online, but this topic receives very low coverage on this blog.
A New Niche?
If I had to describe what our niche is, I would answer Blogging Collaboration. The true turning point came to me when I published the post How I Received 850 Visitors Without Using Social Media Sites. I realized that collaboration was becoming a hot topic in the blogosphere. Just look at how guest blogging is becoming popular. So how do I define blogging collaboration? I’d say it’s the idea of collaborating between bloggers to leverage traffic and readers between sites.
- How we can help each other
- How to use the influential power of Probloggers to gain readers and RSS subscribers
- How to use social media sites efficiently
- How to promote content from fellow bloggers
- And also, how to improve yourself as a blogger
Those are subjects and topics for which I have a lot of inspiration. And, when I write about these things, I’m actually having fun. And blogging should be fun. When there is no fun, blogging becomes work, and if work is no fun then you are heading straight into the wall.
There is another reason why I felt an adjustment was needed. Since I started to publish blogging collaboration content, I instantly noticed increases in daily readers, comments left on posts, articles submitted and voted on social media sites, RSS subscribers, etc. It’s clear that this type of content reaches a large crowd and for me, as a guest blogger, I have to say that I feel much more comfortable writing about blogging collaboration as opposed to how to make money online.

What About Sharing Revenues?
This blog obviously makes money. If you look at the top bar on the site, there is a menu tab called Writing Services. Clients can purchase guest and ghostwriting posts for their blogs, or even inquire for ebook writing services. For the month of January 2008, Piggy Bank Pie Writing Services has sold 13 articles. This includes 10 guest posts, 2 ghosts, and 1 TNX.net review.
Here’s how the revenue sharing kicks in. All the bloggers who submit guest posts on a semi-regular basis here at Piggy Bank Pie are participating in the Writing Services. Obviously, all the guest blogging orders are coming into my inbox. Once a job comes in, I look at the request and distribute it to the right author. So far, Sharon Hurley Hall got a few of them, and Tracey Sands published one as well. Obviously, I keep some for me, gotta pay the hosting bills and the original investment for the theme design, the logo, publicity on John Chow, Blogging Tips and BloggerJobs.biz. All in all I think this is a better business model, and I’m confident that this strategic move will benefit to this blog. Again, providing work for bloggers through the Writing Services is a form of blogging collaboration.
I just wish to thank all the RSS subscribers, readers and collaborators of Piggy Bank Pie. I’m having a great time running this blog, and now with a well-defined niche, I’m confident this blog will continue its growth.
