Launching a blog? Don’t Underestimate The Power of Blogging Collaboration
Posted by Patrick on October 14th, 2007
On October 12th PiggyBankPie published its first article written by a freelance blogger. For me, Sharon’s post, How To Find Blogging Success, was going to be the result of months of concept development. Does blogging collaboration (as I see it) make sense? For a first experience, it’s been a total success!
A hit is a hit
Want to guess what’s been the impact of Sharon’s collaboration with PiggyBankPie?
- Daily traffic literally doubled
- RSS subscriptions increased by 40%
- Stumbleupon.com jumped from position 30 to #4 in referring sites
- And what about Getpaidtowriteonline.com that jumped from no referrals to #9 (referring sites)
- Sharon’s post is the most commented article to this day
- Sharon’s post is the more viewed article to this day
- Many new faces started showing in MyBlogLog’s footer
Here’s my new #1 advice
If you are about to launch a blog, my best advice to you is: find collaborators. Go out there, search the Internet for established bloggers in your niche and don’t look at them as competitors, see them as collaborators. Don’t bother focusing on how you could reach or even beat their RSS counter, work on a blogging collaboration strategy to develop contacts, this could be your best investment for your blog.
As for PiggyBankPie, collaboration is at the very core of our culture and strategy. And while writing a comment in Sharon’s first post, it became clear to me that the ongoing pressure for producing quality posts can be lowered considerably with collaborators. If you have more time to develop new ideas, chances are you’ll come up with better articles, and therefore… faithful readers and RSS subscribers. It’s a win-win.
From now on, when referring to PiggyBankPie’s freelance bloggers, I will simply us the term our writers, or our bloggers, but “our” is what’s more important to me. I hope this community will grow with readers who would feel they have a connection with our writers. Have you noticed the author’s side widget? It now says “Meet Our Writers”, thanks Tiffany for the suggestion.
As I type this article, I have Tiffany Blue’s first article in hands. It’s a great one. After this post I will publish My Pick of the Week, so you can expect Tiffany’s post to be released on Tuesday.
