Frankly, if you are writing something of value and want to keep it for future reference, you can't just send it off into Facebook. You may never see it again! You need a blog as a searchable repository (database) of your most worthwhile material, you need a handy way to send links to things you've written in the past (not so simple with FB), you may need to review and revise your work, you'll want to use keywords (no useful keywords in social media!) and you need a blog so the search engines can find you, long-tail style.

To me, those are all sound reasons for keeping a blog. But if others wish to give theirs up - fine with me!

That aside, no question you want your content visible via Twitter, Facebook, etc. People live on those things.

Using an alias is beneficial especially if you are maintaining a political blog that targets a certain political figure. Being anonymous can protect your from direct harm and other unwanted things that may occur during the span of your political blogging.

Guest blogging is important but can be quite time consuming. The long term benefits however justify the effort involved. It is important to write a few quality posts on high quality blogs rather than attempt to write multiple posts on many blogs.

When you say building them naturally over time? what do you mean? Because the only way i can think of is exchanging links, but that is, ofcourse, frowned upon. I am completely lost when it comes to building backlinks because there isn't much information out there... and I can't expect people to link to me with out any effort on my part. I am very confused on this topic.

Great list of blogs accepting guest posts. I will definitely check them out when I have a post that may not be suitable for my own blog. I also welcome guest blogs for my blog, Brostrom.de, on the topics of Social media, graphic design, marketing, ecommerce and photography. It's listed on MyBlogGuest.com.

Thanks for such a comprehensive list! I really admire the amount of work you put into your blog posts, it’s what sets yours aside from most other blogs!
