Three Key Places To Promote Your Blog
Posted by Sharon Hurley Hall on January 11th, 2010
If you only had to pick three social media/networking sites to promote your blog, which ones would you pick? With new social media and social networking sites springing up every day, it’s sometimes tempting to think that you should belong to all of them.
Since I love shiny new web stuff, I sign up for most of them, but I’ve found that only a few sites help me connect with the people I want to reach. Limiting your online social interactions can save you time that can be used in other ways and can make interacting with people online a pleasure rather than a burden. Here are my top three.
I’ll be the first to admit that I don’t use LinkedIn as much or as well as I should, but as a solopreneur it’s still an important platform for me. If you are blogging as a business, or running a blog to promote your business, then it helps to have a presence on LinkedIn.
Not only can you automatically feed your blog posts into your profile, but you can also establish your expertise by answering general or forum questions. It’s a great place to get recommendations from others and to meet people with similar business interests.
With the advent of pages, Facebook became something other than a network of old pals. Setting up a Facebook page to go with your blog or business will allow you to reach a huge worldwide audience.
Facebook applications make it easy to feed your blog posts in automatically, link other social media and networking accounts to your page and link up with people who share your business interests. It’s a great way to promote yourself and to have a more sustained discussion with people that you have met in other places.
Who would have thought that a medium which allows only 140 character messages could be so useful? This seeming limitation can be quite useful in forcing people to get to the point. When you talk to someone on Twitter, there’s little room for fluff.
Like LinkedIn and Facebook, on Twitter you can feed your blog into your update stream automatically, though the real value of the microblogging site comes in actual conversations with people. It’s a great place to search for information or ask for help on almost any topic related to blogging - and to other business areas as well.
What are your top three places for blog promotion?

I’ve never had much luck promoting my blog on any of those 3. I have a lot of followers on Twitter, but I don’t think any of them check the feeds.
