The Power of Blog Collaboration
Posted by Patrick on April 2nd, 2008

Succeeding in the highly competitive blogosphere, and especially in certain niches, is more and more difficult. Blog collaboration addresses competitiveness by providing solutions for bloggers to help them make their way and succeed into what may end up being the standard news and entertainment media of the next decade.
Blog collaboration can extend in many different fields. Basically, the main idea is to join forces together instead of competing, allowing bloggers to help each other out and improve the overall blogosphere experience.
The Social Network Group Model
By social network group I am not referring to Twitter, StumbleUpon or any other social media sites, I’m talking about bloggers grouping together into communities to support themselves. The magic of Web 2.0 offers a few solutions for creating any sorts of groups and one that is particularly neat, and unique in its offering, is Ning.
Ning is a powerful engine that can be used as a backbone system to create and maintain your social network group. Once you have a interest or a niche in mind, simply go to Ning and create your social network group through the use of the built-in wizard. Setup forums, RSS feeds, members messaging system; music, photo and video sharing; and numerous other functionalities without even writing a single line of code. Best of all? It’s free. And the site offers convenient domain names by creating sub domains under ning.com. This means if you start a photography sharing group called Zoomers, your URL would be zoomers.ning.com.
Social Promo
On March 31st I launched a social network group on Ning called Social Promo, and it’s all about blog collaboration. When you start blogging, or if you wish to extend your reach, it is vital to develop relationships with fellow bloggers. And this is exactly the purpose behind Social Promo. In this venture, I’m welcoming the help of my friend Jay, from DatMoney.com, who will maintain Social Promo with me.
If you are interested in joining a friendly community where bloggers from different fields and background experience work together as a promotional and supportive team, then I officially invite you to join Social Promo. The group is open to any bloggers from any niche.
What Will You Find at Social Promo?
Help and support to:
- Promote your blog
- Promote your business and services
- Promote you social media profiles
- Increase traffic to your site
- Increase RSS subscribers
- Collaborate with other bloggers
- Find and offer guest blogging gigs
And also, general help and support. When you have a community of friends supporting you, things can be way much easier.
Yeah, but there are other communities such as Social Promo, so what’s the deal here? True, but most of the time they are huge, with hundreds if not thousands of members, so they’re not very intimate. My goal is to create a small and friendly community, and I think it will be important to control growth to make sure it stays a friendly place to be, where everyone knows everyone.
Again, if you are interested, don’t be shy, and join us at Social Promo by visiting this link. Once you are registered, please visit the Say Hi and Introduce Yourself threaded discussion … to say hi and introduce yourself

It’s a great initiative Pat. Of coruse, such things have been done before but they have a shelf life as the various algorithms begin to rcognise the voting patterns of these stumble groups, digg brigades etc.
then the value will be in a strong group of bloggers swapping advice and tips.

Patrick - thanks for inviting me and trusting me to help maintain the group.
Kimota - That may be true, but the more exposure we get, the more other people will vote and submit our content, if they like it of course.
But we’ll see what happens, but colloborating should never be a bad thing!

Never suggested it was. I’m one of the biggest users of Social Promo and love it.I’m aware of the law of diminishing returns with these things which is why I’m maximising the effect now.
BUt there is always a benefit to a smallish group of bloggers supporting each other, even after the digg effect has waned.

Collaboration is what I am really hoping to accomplish with Social Promo. When I started blogging, I sometimes felt isolated on an island because I had very little collaboration with other bloggers. I’m hoping Social Promo would provide this kind of friendly service to our group. And so far I’m very happy with how things are going in there, we have a great gang of active bloggers, that’s really cool.

Hi Patrick,
This is a great post and I agree 100% with you. Interaction and collaboration is key when it comes to business.
I’ll check out the Social Promo network.
Thanks,

Blogging has changed online communication as we know it. It has transcended from just chatting to business collaborations to peer to peer networking….it is a great great information transfer tool.

This was much needed! With a lot of blogs experiencing a drop in traffic, this seems like a working solution to resolve the problem of falling numbers and support each other in times like these. Kudos to the idea!
