After many hours of reading individual blogs I have seen incredible posts that include pictures, video, audio tracks, some really fascinating stories as well as some that could be improved. Blogging has become a new art. There are some that are unique and interesting and others that are not quite so. The Blog is an amalgamation of many different things where a new form of communication has taken on its own life. To those creative souls who have the Blog down, I give a standing ovation, a grand applause for the talent and ingenuity of mixing life with technology. Blogging is a sort of poetry that is free-verse, open to interpretation and out there for all to share and feel. This creates a unique experience for each individual in the blog audience. The artistry and heart that has been shown in many cases is outstanding.
With so much technology allowing the world to be mobile and perpetually connected there seems to be something missing. I have come to see that there is room for improvement for the Blog to be not only engaging but easy to read and comprehend as well. This realization brings me to ask: Can a read-worthy blog be created that is not only artful but easy on the reading eyes as well?
I have seen bloggers misuse quotation marks, parentheses, ellipses and even conjunctions. Although their blogs may have had a great story deep within; it was very difficult, in many cases, to really understand what the posts were about. There were lots of lessons we learned in school about where to use conjunctions, how to make proper use of the semi-colon, when and where to place prepositions and the list goes on and on. These things help us as readers to have a consistent way to take in the things we are reading.
I’d like to open up a forum for discussion on what errors in language and grammar you have seen in your reading of blogs. My goal is to provide a series of articles that discuss these common errors and mistakes and help bloggers of all sorts to improve their content and unleash the true blogger/writer within. Once I have your suggestions, I’ll focus on a new subject each week pertaining to the language and grammar used in blogs. Please, don’t be shy. Share with me your pet peeves and questions about the language and grammar standards needed in the blogging world.
Thank you for your participation!
