How Can I Make Money as a Guest Blogger?

I received this question a few times by email and the answer is plain and simple. First, you need to do a few non-paying gigs, only to get your name out there. If possible, try to write for bigger blogs than yours.

Once you’ve written a few guest posts, you can use them as a portfolio to find yourself paying jobs. The Piggy Bank Pie Writing Services page is a good example of a portfolio.

Providing killer content while building your portfolio is vital. I don’t even think I need to explain why. Keep in ming that if you want to find paying gigs, you need to write content other bloggers would want to buy.

Once you’ve published 5-6 guest posts, you can start advertising yourself as a guest blogger. Just add a page or a banner on your site that says Hire Me and provide basic details on what you offer. If you look at this site’s top left banner you’ll find the one I’m using. You can also have a look at Muhammad Saleem’s Hire Me banner in his right sidebar, this one points to his email address… whatever you prefer.

Get Prime Time Visibility

Now that you are ready, go on and publish quality content on your blog and try to get them submitted on sites such as Digg, StumbleUpon, BloggingZoom, Sphinn, Mixx, etc. Visibility is key here.

You can also offer your writing services on BloggerJobs.biz, and consult job boards such as ProBlogger Job Board and CopyBlogger Jobs. You need to be fast on these last two boards though, they both have enormous traffic so competition is high.
